Mills Jewelers has created a Lock Tenders Pendant, Charm, and Christmas Ornament adapted from a design by Matt Duquette of 12 Grain Studio (Now Motherland). 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these pieces will be donated to Lockport Locks Heritage District Corp. The funds will be used toward maintenance of the Lock Tenders Monument Tribute and Flight of Five events.
The Lock Tenders Monument Tribute consists of life size bronze figures displayed on the very steps where an iconic photo was taken of the original twelve of Lockport’s Lock Tenders of 1897. Lock Tenders guided boats through and operated the historic flight of five Locks on the Erie Canal. Also included is the young girl that joined them in the photo and the photographer. The bronze sculptures were created by Susan Geissler of Youngstown.
- The pendant is $110 and has been produced in sterling silver and includes a natural diamond to signify the North Star. The star is a landmark, or sky marker, that helps those who follow it determine direction and lead toward a purposeful destination. It also has a symbolic meaning, for the North Star depicts a beacon of inspiration and hope to many.
- The Charm is $70 and is a smaller version of the pendant with a surface on the back that is suitable for engraving.
- The Christmas Ornament is $25 and is Antique Pewter.
